The Royal Musical Academy was founded in 1771. In it´s first byelaws, signed by king Gustaf III, the academys tasks were detailed:
promote ”what to the musical science belong, regarding composition and performing”, also make sure that ”new musical works and poems written down and inspected”, and also that ”of swedish native youth … watch for able material, who on the behalf of the academy will be tought in composition, singing and treatment of musical instruments of their nature.”
